Edmund is a strange man to others except for Lorentz. People find him hard to go along with, since he neither talk or show other interst in communicating. For some reason, he naturally fits in with Denilou, Fozt but especially Lorentz.

No one knows much of Edmund - since he hasn't spoke a word since he got to the seaport-city Venessie. People don't really think of him as mute, weird enough - they just take his silence for granted, that it's part of his "drawn back" personality. No one knows he is blind either, since he acts and handles things like anyone would do (great sense of hearing). Lorentz is the one who has known him longest, since he was the only one approaching him in first place - he doesn't like it when someone is treated like an "outsider". Thanks to Lorentz, he is not completely alone.

Past (spoilers) of how he lost his voice and sight:
Before he got to seaport city Venessie he was up to some really bad things together with his brother Edmann- some really serious things (don't want to spoil too much here). Edmund, being the youngest of them two, finally saw the downside on their project and decided to give in/quit - from which he was severely punished for in their team. He was banished from seeing, talking and staying around their quarters, and his brother made all of this happen despite sharing the same blood.

Edmund wandered around aimlessly after recovering, trying to make someone lead him the way to a relative he knew could help him. He wrote a poor note and wandered around, showing it to people. Finally, someone helped him and the relative of Edmund took care of him until he could do fine on his own. To her great surprise, Edmund seem to do very well without his sight and voice - - probably because of his misshapen blood (misshapens may have physical disabilities, but also stronger senses in some cases).

Edmund decided to move far away from his past (brother, project, etc). At first he finds his way to a mountain town where he falls in love with a young lady. Despite his disabilities, they seem to fit together perfectly - until the dreadful moment when she notices his claws, tattoos and marks over his sealed eyes after sharing the same bed one night (he always wore gloves and made sure to cut his nails regulary even back here - - but it's pretty hard to do in your sleep, right?). She have heard of him and his brother's project and doesn't want to be involved with him anymore, even if he had quit since long. Edmund always saw the positive side of things - even after loosing his sight and voice - but her breakup truly broke his heart - and he moved yet again, to seaport Venessie and hoped no one would recognize him there.

After her breakup Edmund decides to hide his face even more, start saving long hair- and he gets very upset as soon as someone touches his hands: he is obsessed with this. He cuts his nails at least three times a day (they grow fast) and makes sure that no one sees it. He is a man who seeks someone to share his life with, but after the discovery of that he has to hide who he is to those who fear the misshapen - he is close to loose all hope in trying to find someone who will accept him.

In the story, he eventually starts to date Tina - but let's not get deeper into that. They will have a relationship, that's what I can say.
